Journaling with Technology...a Prototype

Students will transition to more journaling by using technology.  This will allow them to have their own space to create, reflect, and show their knowledge.

  1. I sent you an email. I can't see your prototype when I click the link. It says welcome back and sign in. Thanks

  2. It is irks now. I haven't taught lower grades before and just know about my students and their technology skills. I think it's great to get students working with technology at an early age. I haven't used My Story before. Would each student have their own log-in or would they log-in with your infirmation. Logging in will be a beginning lesson before they can add information. Will they have a physical notebook to keep the information in before they put it online? When you do the guided lessons, will the students then have time to practice on their own to make sure they know how to do it before they actually do their project after the week of lessons? Primary Wall looks like limit.com that I used. I will have to look into bath My Story and Primary Wall, thanks for exposing me to new sites.

    1. Thank you for your feedback. My story has no log in. Students just open the app and click their name. I picked this app for its simplicity. As for the trials, yes they will definitely get time to play and try before any project is assigned. I have learned over the years that they need time to play with anything before I ask them to do something. I will need to make this more clear. I tried today I introduced the app and how to draw, add stickers, and add text. Each kids got a chance to try the app as a trial. No expectations just to try to use what I showed them. At the end of centers we shared every bodies work. Kids were able to gain ideas of what to do or what to try next time. We will continue like this for a week before I assign anything. I will have to think about a physical book. Today I noticed that two were not happy drawing in the app. They might need a physical working journal to draw in and take a picture of. Thanks for that!

  3. I really liked the primarywall.com/ website of sticky notes you selected to post your practice of problem. I can see how the lesson will scaffold the 1st graders in their writing through guided teacher on basic sentence structure usage. I know in my 3rd graders I have a lot of frustrated students when I don't have guided teacher. It seems as if they are lost or not sure what to do with their ideas. We use graphic organizers in our writing; on every subject. That might be something you could add to your lesson. Great job!

    1. Thank you for the idea. We have not really used any graphic organizers this year yet. I tend to use them more at the end of the year. I will have to look for a few that might help. Maybe as I introduce them I can add them to a resource binder they can pull from. Thank you!
